American Mothers, Inc®. is a 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization that recognizes the important role of motherhood through educational programs and outreach. As the official sponsor of Mother’s Day, American Mothers is responsible for annually selecting the National Mother of the Year® from candidates across the United States while honoring mothers who have made a positive impact in their communities. The National Mother of the Year® serves as a spokesperson for mothers everywhere. She also serves as an ambassador for the Golden Rule Movement and the American Mothers 5th Grade Essay Contest. The Mom to Mom Scholarship Fund supports this recognition program.

As a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, American Mothers collaborates with the UN Commission on the Status of Women to raise awareness about issues impacting mothers and children, specifically human trafficking. American Mothers has several programs in place to help raise awareness on this relevant topic.

American Mothers also sponsors an annual Fifth Grade Essay Contest, where 5th graders across the country write a 150-word essay on “What My Mother Means to Me.”  The National Essay winner is flown to Washington D.C. with their mother to meet their congressional representatives on Capitol Hill and attend the American Mothers annual conference where they read their winning essay and accept their award.
